2015 Vega in collaboration with Pell Ensemble

The Vaults (Part of The Vaults Festival)

"Vega' is a collaboration between Pell Ensemble and Hiroko Imada creating an immersive installation with performance as part of The Vaults Festival. Based on the story of the Princess and the Herdsman, a story tied to Tanabata, a yearly festival in Japan where people write wishes down on pieces of paper and send them out by hanging them up in trees. Hiroko made a unique environment for the audience to walk through created of floor to ceiling strips of Japanese paper and ink. Before entering the audience will write a wish down, then walk through the abstract forest of paper finding a place to hang their wishes. On two evening the audience will encounter Pell Ensemble performing a duet that conveys themes of the traditional eastern story through contemporary western dance. Trying to capture how we physicalise and embody tradition.
